Tennessee Day Lilies

Having just returned home from a family Florida trip and an Alaskan trip before that, I’m still in vacation mode. There’s a thousand things I need to do indoors, but I just want to play outside. So I’ll think I’ll do just that this morning and share my fun with you at Susan's Tablescape Thursdays.

Our yard is a sea of orange day lilies this time of year. They grew originally on my in-law’s farm. Hubby has transplanted them in and from at least two of our homes. They multiply quickly and take little maintenance. When a spot in the garden seems a little bare, we just transplant a few day lilies and it’s not bare anymore. Thus, we have a yard full! But they don’t last forever, so let’s take advantage of them while we can.

To work with my day lilies, I came up with "sort of" an oriental theme. I think the day lily looks oriental even though ours are as Tennessee as Minnie Pearl and blue mountains.

For my center table between the Adirondack chairs, I filled a vase with day lilies, of course, and some long stemmed grass out of the yard and placed it beside my garage sale find water fountain.

I draped a bamboo look place mat on the arm of each chair and topped them with celery green plates and taupe and gold bowls.

Tucked in a bronze snapdragon napkin ring, are a napkin, chopsticks and of course, a day lily.

I sliced a lemon on a bamboo cutting board and with it are old utensils that my uncle brought to me years ago from his travels. I don't know that much about them except that the inscription on the back says "Made in Siam" which we now know as Thailand.

Lindsay (from Peacock Blu) bought these mugs for us at our recent vacation in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. They are handmade pottery locally crafted.

It so true - "Something wonderful happens in summer when the sky is a heavenly blue."

Yes, wonderful things do happen when the sky is so very blue, I think, though I'd never heard that quote from him. I really like this Asian motif-type theme. They have that "tranquil" look down! And my favorite part were the dragonflies!

Love the idea of setting up a tablesetting on your Adirondack chairs. I have white Adirondack chairs too and that would be a great place to have dinner some evening. I am in N FL so that will be in the Fall when we cool a little and get rid of some of the mosquitos. I appreciate the idea though.

Those daylilies are a very old variety. They are beautiful. I have some daylilies that came from my great grandmothers garden and I cherish them. They are also orange and thats not my usual color scheme for my garden but because of where they came from they are staying.

I enjoyed your post.

Oh - this is lovely Marsha. I love the orange daylilies ... and you're right - they multiply like crazy! We have them up and down our little street here. Someone got them, and then all of a sudden - everyone had them. I have to tell you though - the way you have them here, and the artistic quality of your photography - impeccable, simply divine. Great job. I'm now a dedicated follower.
