Alas! The day I have been waiting for! My hummer's back!!OH NO! Not that kind of hummer!
My hummers....What I mean...you know...my hummingbirds are back!
That's right! Every year I put my feeders out on one of the very first days of spring when the purple Iris are in bloom and patiently wait...
and wait...and wait...
until one day in late summer along with the black-eyed susans, they finally arrive.
And today just like every other year, they arrived.
So I was right there to welcome them with my Nikon at hand.
They are very camera shy, you know,
but I've been able to get a few "almost" decent shots of them
between their sudden darts and dances.
We are still in the "checking each other out" stage,
but in time we will get to know each other very well.

Marsha, he is just darling. My MIL has hummers, and I love to go to her house and watch them! They are just precious. I did a post today about Shrimp Plants, and apparently they are in the Top Ten plants to attract ruby-throated hummers. I read that online on a site called Operation Ruby-Throat.

Marsha, I love the psot. The hummers are so wonderful to watch. Mine will actually come down and hover next to my neck on the side. They are just so much fun. My hummer even clicks at me when she wants the feeder changed or it is empty. They are very easy to tame if you spend time with them. They are just wonderful. I love the hummingbirds. Darting and chirping. I'm so glad that they have settled down for the summer in your area. I don't have hummingbird feeders up, but they like to take baths in my fountain.

Don't you just love these little beauties. Your photos are great because we all know they never stand still long enough to pose for us. I've been so busy lately that I've missed stopping by to visit - we Marsha's need to stick together ;)
We put out our feeders in May in hopes that the scouts will find us. Last year we had six or seven but this year only one has come. I change the fluid once a week but we are dissapointed in the numbers. Maybe next year...Sharon

Hi Marsha, your hummingbirds are so adorable! Our hummingbirds are green lol! Bright limegreen, with the brownish/grey mixed in. I've been trying to get a picture, but the minute I move the fly off. They love my fushias.

Great shots, these are always so difficult to capture.
We have a trumpet vine with large orange blooms and the little hummingbirds just love them. It is truly summer when you see the little birds flitting around.
