Too Early for Tulip Bulbs!

Did you all know that planting bulbs are not stocked in the stores yet? Who ever heard of such a thing! I've been every where looking for bulbs to complete my tablescape without any luck. At one store, I asked the clerk if they had planting bulbs and she rather condescendingly replied that it was a little too early for planting bulbs. Feeling a little naive...well...stupid, I started to defend myself by explaining that I didn't want to plant them YET, they were for my tablescape, but her tone didn't really encourage conversation so I just kept it to myself. The lengths I'll go to do a tablescape!! What have you bloggers done to me! Oh well, next best thing was to use artificial so that's what you got.

My tulip platter along with the plates below came from TJ MAXX. The label on the back says Jay Import (Made in China) HA! I filled my glass container with moss and artificial bulbs. Tucked to the side is a planting shovel and garden gloves (from Big Lots-They didn't have bulbs either. :=)).

My tulip plates rest on the same Gibson green plates you've seen several times. (WOW, are they versatile!) Both are nestled in a straw charger. My glasses are from Southern Living from a few years back.

Did you notice the napkin rings? They are made to look like little flower pots. I planted a single tulip in each one.

I think I might have a party and give each guest a burlap sack of tulip bulbs to take home. That is if I can ever find them at the stores!! :=)

Shovel your way on over to Susan's Tablescape Thursday. She has some blooming gorgeous tablescapes for your eyeing pleasure!

This is so pretty and I love your idea for the bulbs -- All us tablescapers completely understand your frustration of not being able to find that perfect finishing touch -- I looked all over this week for a vintage boy's baby bib - and alas, none to be found in my travels. Nice job (even without the bulbs)

I'm sure the stores will soon discover the shopping power of bloggers and they will be begging us to buy things like out of season bulbs.

I had to laugh about the bulbs. I would have no clue either as to when stores would carry them. Your tablescape turned out great. I love the idea of sending home bulbs as a thank you gift. Thanks for visiting my blog & leaving me a comment. It really means a lot to me.

Marsha, what a beautiful tablescape and I too love the idea of putting bulbs in the apocothary jar for a centerpiece!

Love it!! love the way you really carried forward the theme. At least you'll have the bulbs any ol' time you want now. When I'm at a store and I say, "Oh, a blogger last week said/had/did..." their eyes glass over like they have no clue about ALL of us. Love the napkin ring/pots and the tulip peeking up out of it.

I think you should join the Sept. Apothacary Jar/Cloche party. There is a button on my blog roll about it. denisemarie-Bloomin'
