green thumbs to the rescue!

planter in July

This pair of planters rest on my pergola.

Of course, these photos were taken last summer.

pergola planters

We did a redo of the pergola last year.

You can see our garden and pergola here and here if interested.

Well, now it’s planting time again.

And my problem is what would grow best and look great in my planters this year?

I know there’s some FINE gardeners out there cause I’ve seen the evidence.

Green Thumbs, come to my rescue and give me suggestions on what to plant!!!

(hmmm…I think I’ll check in on Outdoor Wednesday,

cause I know there’s more than a few gardening experts there!)

It doesn't look as if you need any help--last year's pots look great! I am hoping to do some pots this week too!

You did a wonderful job last year...really nicely done. I love plants and flowers that overflow out of my planters. And of course I have to use flowers that do well in my area!!

Best of luck, Marsha!

Looks like you get mostly shade - what about a hosta (green with white), mixed with green and white caladium, white impatiens and the trailing green ivy with a touch of white on the edges.

Come see my garden! Dropping by from Outdoor Wednesday.

Oh Marsha! I WISH I could help in any way, you know, but my green thumb is a very weak, pale, you-can-just-barely-see-it shade of green!! I'm just elated to have a blossom show up on my African Violet! Have fun with it anyways! ~tina

Your garden is so inviting. I like the new paint (well, last year) and how it brightened up your garden world there. I'm sure you enjoy many relaxing moments there.

I have no suggestions! Last year's are BEAUTIFUL!

OMG Marsha.... Your garden and yard is FABULOUS.... Holy Cow---I'm SO impressed... I thought ours looked good--but yours is so professional... Do you take care of all of that yourself --or do you have a gardener????

I am so in 'awe' of your garden and pergola that I forgot what your question was. OH---I'm no professional gardener, but I do know that if you want color, fill your planter with Impatiens. They love shade --and will bloom until the first frost. All you have to do is water them...

Good Luck--whatever you do. I'm sure it will be GORGEOUS.

Hugs,
Betsy

Wonderful pictures of your plants and your pergola bench. You make me want to go out and dig in the dirt! Such lovely impressions.
Last year I planted colius and it was so beautiful all season and through the fall. Your planter is lovely!

Marsha Your containers are so pretty. I have the same problem making a decision for mine every spring too. I want to try different combination's but the pickings here is usually the same in the nurseries.
The picture of the Easter egg eating is just the sweetest LOL! Thanks for dropping by.

What you did last year was so pretty.
I am not of much help. I get a lot of shade and dappled sun once the leaves come out, so just try different ones and hope for the best.

Oh Marsha - I'm so envious! We're building a patio this summer. Well, sorta summer - BEFORE May 31st. I've had to circle that date on every calendar in the house! LOL! Hope you don't mind me saving pictures of yours as inspiration! Thanks for stopping by for a visit - come back anytime! :)

I agree with the other ladies- looks like you have done an awesome job in the past!! Depending on where these beautiful planters are what about herbs? I love to go out and snip fresh basil, thyme, chives, and mint for my meal planning-
