Let me tell you about my designing daughter

back splash

I call her that since her trade is interior design. She was previously employed by a home construction company until the bottom fell out of the economy and she and most of the company were put on the unemployment line. You might say, she made lemonade out of lemons by starting her own consultant company, LDS Designs.

exterior

She still works with her previous employer and other builders to design their homes, meaning everything from the exterior brick and paint selections…

kitchen

to the kitchen cabinets, backsplash, counter-tops, faucets,

bath

bathroom tub and shower designs,

dining room 4

flooring, trim, and EVEN THE DOOR KNOBS!

shopping

She stages homes too. I helped her load the car for this staging.

shopping 2

Of course, I had to take a few pics.

I couldn’t help but think what fun it was to shop and get paid for it!!

She’s also had the opportunity to redo rooms for individual clients like the one shown below.

More projects are on the horizon including the St. Jude House at the Westhaven community in Franklin, Tennessee to be given away to benefit St. Jude Hospital. You can count on me being there to take pics and share them with you. A LDS Designs blog is a work-in-progress and I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s here. In the meantime, Lindsay has some of her work in her personal blog, Peacock Blu.

Obviously, beautiful designs run in your family! Your work and hers--classy, elegant and timeless. You're a proud mom indeed. Glad to hear she's doing what she loves.

You must be immensely proud of your daughter. her work is gorgeous. I like the bookshelf unit. It does look like such fun work but I know it isn't easy. My daughter is 8 months away from her degree in interior design. I have seen some of her work and assignments keep her up at night. Because of this, I know she has the determination to be a success.

Thanks for a great post, Marsha!

Your daughter has a dream job!
Good for her for going out on her own because she has the talent for sure.
It's so important to do what makes us happy and she is well on her way to a very successful career.

Lovely! And I agree that shopping with someone else's money would be great fun!

I just have to ask what LDS stands for? It can't be the first thing that comes to mind---Latter-day Saints--because I don't think different religions have different designs. But maybe they do!

I love staged homes. When we lived in California I worked for a new home builder and my very favorite part was the models. I could just inhale the beauty.

Your daughter has a gift.

She has done some excellent work. How lucky to do the house in Franlin, my favorite little town. Going to see my son in Nashville next weekend and hope to get to Franlin.

She's really talented! I love how she transformed that messy desk nook, it looks so fresh and organized! I could use her here :) Good for her starting her own business. DH is doing the same thing - laid off after 27 years with the same company, so we're taking the plunge! Kathy

This is a wonderful post, Marsha. What a talent! Loved seeing all the photos.

I remember Westhaven from our drives around Franklin. We were there three days of our stay. We just kept going back for more! Loved it. In fact, if we make the trip again...we plan to stay in Franklin.

What a fun job! Losing her job might have been a blessing in disguise. Looks like she'll stay busy with all that talent.
