My bleeding heart…

Bleeding heart popular

…is blooming in my garden now. What a sweet sweet flower with its heart shaped blossoms hanging delicately from it’s willowy stems.

Cigar man and I worked played in the garden today. For garden work is play.

Early this morning, we headed to the cow manure store. (So romantic!) On the way back, we were to stop at a nearby flower stand to pick out our plantings. When I noticed we were passing it by, I asked, “Weren’t we going to stop at the flower stand?”

Cigar man: “Well, cigar man has to pick up cigars first.”

(Hmmm…he’s been reading my blog. J)

“No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth,
no culture comparable to that of the garden ...
But though an old man, I am but a young gardener.”

Oh dear, the thoughts of Mr. Sissie reading my blog is a little scary. I don't know how he would feel about the name I've given him.
I like Cigar Man, at least it sounds manly, but Mr. Sissie????

I love your photos. Happy gardening.

Hi Marsha, What could be more romantic than a trip to the cow manure store?????? OR----to the cigar store????? ha ha

You two must be a great 'team'.... George and I try to team also----but he has to mow since we have an electric lawnmower---and that darn thing is about 100000000 pounds... ha ha

Hugs,
Betsy

Oh how I love gardens also. Since I am older than dirt I have had to cut back to simple container gardening. Tonight HH and I decided to have out fish pond and water garden taken up and filled in. It almost made me cry but it has just gotten out of hand and I know what has to be done. I love reading about your activities.

Beautiful bleeding hearts. I've never tried them. I've always been afraid that I'd kill them.

I'm not familiar with the bleeding heart plant, but the flower sure is pretty.

Working/playing in the garden is my 'favorite thing!'

Love the Jefferson quote!
Have a great weekend!

For those of you afraid to grow a bleeding heart plant, don't be! Mine has been coming up for 5-6 years and I don't do anything to it! It's planted in semi-shade. You should water regularly during blooming season for blooms to last longer. It is hardy to zone 3 -9 and should tolerate the cold winters in Northern states. I think Cigar Man and I need to divide it early next spring.
