a fresh breeze

Today was overcast and a wee bit chilly in my neck of the woods so cleaning out my closet was the chore chosen sport of the day. I do this at the start of every season and I always dread it for several days before I finally get on it. My self-made rule is to weed out anything I didn’t wear last season and give it to Goodwill.

I think what prompted me this season was watching the television show “Hoarders”. Have any of you seen this show? If you have, you know that seeing the homes in this show will make anybody start weeding out! I know I’m not a hoarder, really I do, but while watching these poor people climb over trash to get to their own beds (some can’t even get in their own beds for the junk), I start wondering how their homes got to this extreme chaos. And then I start wondering if my practice of keeping little items that other people would probably throw away because I just might use it in one of my craft projects one day could ever grow into not being able to walk to my bed over heaps of trash and junk! YIKES! It’s kinda like when you watch Dr. Oz and worry you have the disease of the day. Can anybody relate?? (I sure hope so.)

Anyway, it’s always a GOOD feeling when I’m done. It’s a feeling like you’re sitting in an adirondack chair on a brisk day drinking a glass of lemonade with a fresh breeze blowing through your hair. Hmmm…I think I’ve been watching too many TV commercials. I’ve got to get out of the house more!

Oh, how I need to tackle my closets. We give to Good Will, too. Great tax write offs.

Oh Yes! I know that feeling! I'm afraid to even watch that show, but if it would inspire me to get rid of some stuff, I guess I should watch it. I would love to sit in the pretty adirondack chair. laurie

Sometimes I almost wish someone else would just come and weed out stuff while I'm gone for the day...and then see if I really need it or miss it when I return.

It was unseasonably cool here today, wasn't it? My little one and I went to Wartrace to pick strawberries...brrr...it was cool outside.

I have been cleaning out for awhile now and it feels so good.

That's a smart rule to follow Marsha... IF you don't wear it or use it for a YEAR, get rid of it....

My inlaws have more junk than one can ever imagine.. They aren't hoarders --like on the TV show. But--Dad used to repair smalll appliances ---so he has collected more 'bits and pieces' of STUFF that you can only imagine. Don't know what the family will do when Mom and Dad die --and the kids have to clean out that house!!!

Hugs
Betsy

Hoarders is a weirdly addicting show. I feel that way sometimes. I do have a lot of stuff, and every now and then I go on a terror and just throw away a bunch of things and have to say "really, when I am ever going to get around to doing that?"

It's hard to part with stuff, and easy to accumulate it...

I hear you. Watching one show of Hoarders will take the joy out of any junk drawer, huh? :) Love your new header.

I need to get busy and do the same thing. I have clothes and shoes I have not worn in years. I have not watched the show, but have heard about it and have seen a couple of film clips about the show.

I am sorry to say, but I personally know people that are hoarders. It is a chemical imbalance and I am not sure if they can control it. They never stop. It is a sad thing to me.

LV, you are so right! It is so sad and it was not my intention to make light of it at all.

Guilty as charged! LOL!

But I want to know something, Marsha... what is the difference in collecting and hoarding??? There's a fine line. But I think I might pass over it when it comes to dishes and maybe Christmas ornaments and maybe sock monkeys and maybe neat boxes and maybe books... You get the picture. It's just that things are SO much better in groups. All the decorators say so. Yes, blame it on them! ;-)

XO,

Sheila :-)

Oh Sheila, you got my drift! It's a VERY FINE line indeed! That's the scary part. :=)

Hoarders is some scary stuff! You have to feel sorry for them because it surely is a sign of deeper things.

I looooove your adirondack with geraniums photo. Beautiful Frame-worthy I think.

I like to help others and I always have something to take to my local thrift stores. It is such a nice feeling. I am glad you had a moment to sort through your closet. Great post! Hoarding is a very sad affair.
