a place in the sun

We had a place in the sun reserved on the beach this summer.

We were dreaming of lazy days reading novels under bright blue umbrellas.

Letting the tide tickle our toes as we walk barefoot along the sand.

But then came the oil spill and ruined our plans.

So in lieu of our summer vacation, I set a beachy tablescape.

(Can you blame me if my heart’s just not in it?)

Yes, we’ll get over it. There will be other vacations.

But what happens to the vegetation?

And what happens to the wild life?

I’m sharing with some beautiful tablescapes over at Susan’s

Tablescape Thursday.

I love your tablescape, but you are right, nothing compares to the real thing! I am so distressed over the spill. I'm so sorry about your vacation? Where did you plan to go?

oh marsha, I've been so caught up in our flooding news, that it never ocurred to me about the oil on the beach we vacation at! I was just talking to my mom and dad tonite and they said "too bad about your vacation". i did not even realise what they meant...it's all so sad. Your tablescape is lovely though and your photos of beach are beautiful :0)

It makes me ill thinking of the oil spill, so sad that it will takes more years than I will be on this earth before it is anywhere near what it was.
Your table is lovely...transferware is my favorite when it comes to dishes.

We have reservations at the beach too.
What beach were you going to?

Marsha, I'm so sorry that your plans were spoiled, and I hope and pray that they can get this oil slick cleaned up. I've been watching and worrying for the people on the Gulf.

I love your tablescape. It is so neat. I was thinking beach, too, and did mine in blue. I like your brown transferware. It looks great! Enjoyed seeing this so much!!!

Happy Tablescape Thursday...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Hi Marsha, Happy Tablescape Thursday!!!!

Sorry about your vacation. Why don't you go to the East Coast? We just got home from Ocean Isle Beach, NC---and it was fabulous. You'll have to check our my recent blog posts.

Hugs,
Betsy

Your tablescape post has double benefit...the beauty of your dishes/setting and bringing awareness to a terrible tragedy that certainly will have a lasting impact. Although, I live in western Canada, I too have been very concerned for those living/vacationing in the area as well as the wildlife/vegetation.

Marsha, I'm so sorry about your vacation, but your tablescape is beautiful - so soft and so beachy. I'm afraid this oil spill is really going to effect our environment for a long time - such a tragedy. I just can't believe there weren't better plans for containing something like this. It was bound to happen at some point. laurie

Hi Marsha, I'm sorry your vacation plans are delayed due to the oil spill. I am worried about what is going to happen to our oceans and all the creatures living there and on the beaches. It’s devastating to say the least. On a happier note...your table is so lovely. I love your choice of colors; your brown transfer ware is so pretty. Love the beachy theme. Thank you for visiting and leaving your kind comment on my "TWEET" Tablescape Thursday", it was so much fun designing this table. I'm really enjoying birds this year!

I hope you all can find another place to vacation that will be relaxing and fun!

The oil spill breaks my heart when I think of the wild life, vegetation and the water that will be affected for so many years. I can't believe that it's still spewing oil and not capped yet.

I love the soft colors of your tablescape, so pretty!!!!

Lovely tablescape, and my heart is sick as well about the oil spill ruining our lovely beaches. It is so very sad.

What fabulous placemats! I love the way you've featured them with the serene colors in this tablescape. We like to go to Destin, and we've been bombarded by offers from rental companies, indicating a money-back guarantee if the oil spill closes the beaches. It's tempting!

Beautiful table...sorry that your vacation plans have been derailed and I hope you are able to make alternae plans. I used to be a follower but apparently at some point in time that changed as I just realized. I have signed up as a follower again. Come by and visit me when you have a chance.

Beautiful tablescape. We were just vacationing on the gulf (Sanibel) last week. I'm almost ill thinking of this damage from the oil spill. We've GOT to come up with an alternative fuel source!

So lovely - your tablesetting is amazing. I know we are all praying that the damage from the spill can someday be repaired.

Marsha,
Your table is beautiful. We were going to vacation on the FL gulf. I think we are still going. Lots to do besides looking at the beach, but we will look at it. Maybe one of our children will remember and work for solutions in the future that will end the mistakes we make today.

What a divine TT post! I'm in love with all your pretty gold accent pieces & I have very similar lacey placemats, too.

We are just SICK over what the oil spill is doing to the Gulf of Mexico & its wildlife. I could cry each time I see the pictures! I can't believe they didn't have some sort of plan already in place for such a horrific accident. grrrrrr!
