~just old attic finds~

sofa table side view

Since pretty boy and blue eyes left, I’ve been pulling my “stuff” out of the attic where it was stored while they were living here. (Just wasn’t room for “decor” AND playpens, highchairs, riding toys and such.

Pulling it all out again has been kinda of like when you move and unpack. You know the feeling? Lamps, books, and old collectibles look new and fresh again. You have a whole new prospective on arranging them!

I get such pleasure out of “decorating”. I never leave anything the same for too long. Tabletops at my house are like the weather in Tennessee. If you don’t like it today then stick around, it’ll change soon.

Love this apothecary jar. She is so versatile.

You can fill her with all kinds of things.

After being filled with natural items like moss, pinecones, seed pods, and even a glittered starfish or two, she's found a home on my sofa table.

apothecary jar filled with moss and stuff

I have a small collection of mallards. Love to decorate with them, especially in the fall. Their colors go so well with autumn decor. Some of mine are carved from wood, but this one’s special. She’s an old decoy.

couch table

On the other side of the room, I pulled an old table back out of the attic. Oh, I love the patina of this old table. You never have to worry about damaging the surface. The harder you are on it, the more handsome it gets. You gotta love that!

wine corks

I save all my wine corks cause you never know when you’ll need them. They provide an inexpensive way to add some color and texture to the room.

side chair

The pillow was made from an old coffee sack. I made three pillows out of the same sack and if you're interested in doing something like this, check my previous post out HERE.

bird and house

Let me show you one more thing before I go pulling more “stuff” out of the attic.

On my coffee table, a little birdie perches on her nest full of eggs with her log cabin birdhouse close by.

By the way, speaking of coffee tables, I have a question for you.

coffe table

See the coffee table? Years ago, my dad cut the legs off an old pedestal dining table and created this coffee table for our home.

I’ve always loved the look of the rich oak, but, now, I’m thinking I want to paint it an off-white shabby chic. I think it would really POP on my rug. What do you think? Really, I would love to know!

Sharing with others at my friend, Marty’s for Tabletop Tuesday.

I just know you had a great time pulling all your treasures out and setting them around the house.

That's a wonderful coffee table. It would look great painted an offwhite and maybe shabbied a little with some light sanding here and there.

We have to put a lot of things away when our grands come to visit just for a short time!

I love painted white furniture, but I don't think I could bare to cover such wood! I also like the warmth of natural wood.

I bet it is like moving in again. Maybe I should pack everything away for a while and start over, I need to move things around here, but all I do is stare at it. :D

I'd love to go "shopping" in your attic!!

Great apothecary jar! I saw one at the Discovery Shop this weekend and I know at $15 it was probably a good buy but I didn't buy it . . now if it had been $5.00 . . I've gotten spoiled garage sale shopping, LOL

I noticed your lovely Longaberger basket with the corks in it. Love that! =)

About the table, I think I'd keep that one just the way it is. Seems it might have a little sentimental value. Keep your eyes open at garage sales or Good Will for a cheap one to paint - one with no strings attached that's just waiting for paint!

Just my two cents.

I want to live in your attic!!
I LOVE the idea with the jar and moss, etc..
I would paint the table but my husband would have a fit! I'm just saying!

I am putting some of my delicate things away and slowly making room for all of the baby paraphernalia coming in as you are bringing yours back out!!! We still have to baby proof before he starts crawling.

Blue Creek Home is looking different these days, but I wouldn't trade anything for our Mason and Alex being here.
Enjoy!

Love it all!!! Are you sure you want to paint it WHITE WHITE??? There doesn't seem to be anything that color in that room, although I'm looking at a picture and you are there. Maybe OFF white, try taking a white cloth and drape it on the table and pin it under to make the table LOOK WHITE and stand back and LOOK at it... I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE that your Father is part of the table, It's a GORGEOUS table with such wonderful memories attached...

O, Martha..I wouldn't think twice about painting this pretty table white. YOU WILL LOVE IT...

All your vignettes look so good. Love that drop leaf table too and it does have nice patina. My dad cut a table down just like that one many years ago. That makes such a nice coffee table. It would probably look great painted and aged. Of course that is all I seem to be doing these days.

Hi Marsha. I like the corks in the basket. I just saw a decoy last week and wondered what I might do with one. Sigh. I absolutely LOVE your drapery fabric. Paint the table? Maybe, if it's very creamy. *hugs

Yep, I want to shop in your attic as well. Love your older Longaberger basket with your wine corks. The tables are nice the way they are. The coffee table would look nice in white as well.

I love your house. Oh what fun to be pulling out stuff from storage and decorating with them. It must feel like being a child in a candy store. I am sure whatever you do to that wood table will look good. It looks great the way it is too....Christine

So many beautiful things! It's such fun to unpack and find old things/new!

I think the table would look great painted, but I don't know that I could bear to change the natural look of that table, it's gorgeous! You're dad is a genius!

Oh how fun to bring all your things out and play. Love your apothecary jar, and the birdhouse and nest are just wonderful. I really love the basket of corks, and it is so funny that I had corks in part of my display today too. Your coffee table is stunning. I love it as it, but if you really want to paint it, then do it. Thanks also for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

Hi Marsha!
Your post AND comments from friends are just fun to read tonight!
The photos of your attic treasures are wonderful!
The coffee table... I would have a hard time painting ~ unless the stain and sealer were in bad shape...
I love the look of wood.
Maybe a cream or taupe opaque stain would look interesting.

Thank you so much for your kind and sweet comment today~
*love,
Maria

When I was young, my parents had a very similar table. They cut off the legs as well and my Mom painted the table an heirloom white. We all loved that table!

It's always fun when we bring out stuff we've put away- it's like having all new things to lay with. I like the tabletop vignette. Using a variety of filler for the apothecary jar was a fun idea.
As for your table,if you're sold on painting it, I don't think I'd use a solid white- I would use a creamy white and then glaze it so it isn't so stark. Do you have any other light colored case goods in the room?
Thanks for coming by for a visit.
:-) Sue

Amazing how we can enjoy old things when they've been missing for awhile. And the joy of switching things around an "puttering." I'm sure you miss the activity of your family, as well as enjoying the quiet again?

Lovely finds from your attic. Nothing like having a store in your home.. where everthing is free no less.
Do you have anything else white in that room? I think the table would look great painted white if that is what you really want. It is your home after all.
Blessings~

Hi Marsha,
Definitely paint the coffee table! My daughter and her hubby painted thiers off white and it looks great and they don't have to worry about what the two year old will do to it! :)
