Why do Red Robins lay blue eggs?

We've been sprucing up our arbor and patio getting ready to enjoy some warm leisure time outside. The arbor had to be re-stained. I'll show some before and after photos at a later post. Our Adirondack chairs and glider had to be painted, have to find a new umbrella for our patio table, and then we can start scattering some pretty flowers all around. In the process, we discovered a robin's nest at the top corner of the arbor. My hubby climbed up a ladder and got this photo of the red red robin's eggs. Aren't they a pretty blue? Thus the popular color, Robin's egg blue. Have you ever wondered why red robins lay blue eggs? We are going to keep a watch on the progress of these little eggs and mother robin red dress and let you know the outcome. (That is if I can get him to climb that ladder again!) :=O

Here's a shot of the corner of the arbor where Mizz Robin lives with her quadruplet of unhatched baby blue bird eggs.

Oh...and how about that wisteria hanging on the arbor. A couple of years ago it bloomed like this, but was quickly killed by a late freeze so this year is the first time we have been able to enjoy it's blossoms. As you can see, the bees like it too.

Be sure and visit the other "blues" on Blue Monday at smilingsally.blogspot.com.

What a blessing to find the little nest of robins eggs! And how wonderful that your husband climbed up to get a picture for you!
I love the wisteria, one of my favorite vines.
Have a great day and take care of the little eggs!

I do love wisteria. What a great picture of the robin's eggs. My sister-in-law has a nest in a planter that hangs just outside her back door. We got a look at them when we were in Memphis for Easter.

HI, Marsha, thanks for stopping by. I just love your outdoor arbor & oh how pretty those eggs are. No wonder everyone has fallen in love with this color.

I did a couple of previous posts on my white cabinet if you want to go back & take a look. There's a link in that first paragraph which will take you back to the original post I did after finishing the cabinet. Then a few days later, I did a whole post on how I did the burlap backing with the herb words. Hope you enjoy!

Why do they lay blue eggs? Because if they were pink, you'd have a post for Pink Saturdays but nothing for Blue Mondays! LOL!

They are a beautiful color for sure. Tell hubby we are all waiting to see little open mouths pointed toward the sky, please.
Lovely place to rest and relax and take in the great outdoors.
Sitting here this morning, I dream that my little girl's basket has fresh, warm blueberry muffins and she is knocking at MY door.
Busy week here, hope yours is going well. Candy

These blue eggs were worth clicking for! Breathtaking! I've always heard that they were blue but it almost seemed fairy tale like and not possible to be that gorgeous! Chickens be jealous!
