Mrs. Red Robin's Blue Eggs - Part 2

I few days ago hubby and I discovered this red red robin's nest complete with four "robin's egg blue" eggs. If you missed it, you can see them here nestled in the wisteria blooms. (Trust me, these are eggs worth clicking for.)

Ever since, we have been watching and waiting for the hatching of the eggs. For days, rain and shine, Mrs. Red Red Robin sat...

...and sat on her four little precious eggs. Until one day, we saw her carrying a wiggly little worm in her little gold beak to the nest. But why would she carry a wiggly worm to four little eggs? OH! Wake up, Marsha! She wouldn't! The four little blue eggs are now baby red red robins.

The morning we suspected the eggs had hatched we had to leave for work and we were not going to be back home for 48 hours. I really felt I needed to seize the moment. I wanted a photo so badly that hubby consented to meet me at home for lunch to climb up the ladder again and take a picture. So that's what we did. And this is what we found. Count them - one - two - three - oops - but there were four eggs. We don't know for sure what happened to the fourth egg, but we did see a broken blue egg on the ground near by a day or two before. Possibly one of Mrs. Red Red Robin's eggs. :=(

As you can see, they were sleeping like babies so hubby started tweeting like a bird (can you picture this? A grown man on a ladder tweeting like a bird??) Sure enough, one little baby red red robin woke up and opened its little gold peak as if to say, "FEED ME!"

And then another one opened its little gold beak as if to say, "I'M HUNGRY!"

The third one never opened his mouth and the next morning, hubby found one little baby robin lying on the deck. (Don't worry. We didn't take a picture of that.)

Mr. and Mrs. Red Red Robin continue to bring little wiggly worms to their babies and we continue to watch...and take photos.

I understand it takes about two weeks before the baby robins are ready to fly away. Hope I'm there to see and take photos so you can see too.

P.S. I was telling this story to a friend in the "real" world and she jokingly replied, "You need a life." I pondered about this statement for a while and I concluded, I do have a life. Isn't this what it should all be about; "stopping to smell the roses" or in this case “stopping to enjoy the baby birds”? Anyway, I know you sister bloggers will understand. You always do. :=)
Now, let's all take a look at the other adventures at Susan's Outdoor Wednesdays.

These are wonderful photos! We had hundreds of robins in our yard during the winter, but we miss out on this amazing part of their lives since they are only migrant visitors to our area. It's so neat to see it through your blog.

I know your friend said that..but it had to be that she really was not THINKING before she spoke. People do that. "Get a life" it seems to me is exactly what you have done..and what a wonderful life it is! I think..it may be possible...that she should consider taking her own advice..and I say that kindly.

I love how you have captured how wonderful these birds are. I was perusing blogs the other day and someone was complaining about these robins that had built a nest in their plants.
I kept thinking how lucky they were to have these beauties just steps from their door.
Kudos to you for embracing it.
That is having a life. ;)
Thanks for stopping by "The Zoo".
Feel free to drop by any time. :)
