January Thaw

"No one can look at a pine tree in winter
without knowing that spring will come again in due time."
~Frank Bolles
The last few days leave me believing that spring is not too far behind. After several days of below freezing temps, it's so nice to have sunny days in the 50s. So we went for a walk, my grandson and I. Well, I walked. He strolled. We walked past the skateboarders and the jogger in shorts enjoying an unseasonable warm day.
We walked past an old antebellum home.
We looked up through the trees.

We saw creatures in the trees. Look closely. Do you see what looks like a bird, the beak and eyes on the left of the tree trunk? Yea, we were really killing time - bad case of cabin fever!

And then we saw a bird's nest leftover from a past season no doubt
which gave us hope of spring.
O, wind, if Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?

I love the pine cone photo. I have one that is similar that makes me happy.

Spring will come...this was likely just a teaser, but a welcome one.
We are enjoying it as well.

I didn't get outside much, but I sure did enjoy having the sunshine streaming in my windows! I enjoyed the photos, and I always get excited when I see nests in our trees.

Your photos are lovely. I can't think of a better way to treat a case of cabin fever than to take a slow walk through the park. I hope you have a wonderful Outdoor Wednesday.

What beautiful pictures. I especially like the one of the antebellum home. I'm sure those walls could talk. What a wonderful time you must have had with your grandson. Thanks for coming by to see my little "thief". Pop in any 'ole time.. hugs ~lynne~

What beautiful photos. I saw the bird in the tree before I even read what you wrote. Wearing shorts when it's in the 50's is not something this "can't take the cold" California gal could do :-)

What a beautiful place to live...just beautiful.
I am in love with tree's and have already planted six of them since June of 2008. Two redwoods and three birch and one lemon! :)
Love those pictures.
