This time of year, a true southern girl loves her fresh veggies. We have a farmer’s market every Saturday in my little town. Local farmers fill their pick-up truck beds with whatever they grow and head for the market. You can usually find me there, bright and early looking for a few of my favorite foods.
MMMMMM…Tomatoes, but not just any ole tomatoes.
Bradley Tomatoes
They are not the prettiest tomatoes, mind ya, but they make up for that in taste.
Slap some slices between two pieces of bread,
add bacon, lettuce, and mayonnaise.
OH baby!
MMMMMMM…corn, but not just any ole corn,
“Silver Queen” or “Peaches and Cream”
Here’s a photo of one of each. Silver Queen is a white corn while Peaches and Cream is yellow and white mixed. I really can’t decide which one I love best.
I posted a good ole southern “fried corn” recipe a while back and if you missed it take a look here. You’ll love it!
( Hmm..what a coincidence. While I’m typing this, I’m also listening to Oprah talk about “real” food verses “junk” food. Her guest is saying things like “eat real foods and you don’t have to worry about getting enough nutrients…and only eat food that will ROT.” Her guest says that many of the products in our grocery stores aren’t really foods at all! I don’t always agree with Oprah, but I’ll have to give her an AMEN on this one.)
Okay…moving on now.
Don’t want to get too serious about food since I still love my curly cheetos!
(and even though the bag has an expiration date,
I KNOW they wouldn’t ROT for about 100 years.)
Talking about simple country food makes me want to set a simple country table!
No fuss. No gush.

Marsha, Your food looks great...both the tomatoes and the corn are a type I will have to try.
The dishes with bubble glass and the flowers sure make a warm and inviting tablescape.
Happy and blessed days to you,
d
Love this! So simple and cute. Even your centerpiece is perfect for the table. Stop by and link up to Centerpiece Wednesday on my blog.

Love the fresh local veggies, but have to admit - I have not been to the farmer' market in a while. It has just been to hot to do much cooking.
I have a couple of those pieces - like your farmer. I have never seen them anywhere else before. I will have to see if I can find out more about them. I love produce from the farmers' market too.
Barbara and Erin, the dishes are
M A Hadley, made in Kentucky. They belonged to my mother.
Oh my I love the pottery! I remember when my friend got all the pieces, I was so jealous!
Oh my that corn and those tomatoes look delicious.
What a wonderful summer post!

Love those black-eyed susans in that old canning jar--beautiful!
Yum! Your setting is so fresh and simple. That wonderful table is perfect too! Good to see you again! Jacqueline
I have never seen that coloured corn, we obviously don't get that type in Australia!
Lovely simple setting.
Those are lovely, and very summery!
: )
How darling are those dishes! Love them! What a perfect farm fresh table with the canning jar and Black Eyed Susans!

What a wonderful table. The dishes are just precious and nothing is better than 'ugly' food. More people should have a garden at least once to know how delicious fresh produce can be. Especially the corn!! MMMMmmmm.
STUNNING PICTURES!!!! Love those dishes! Just a reminder - my Friday Vignette's post is tomorrow, and I'd love it if you'd link up! Even pictures from this post - THEY'RE SO GREAT!!!! :) Hope you join in! :) Artie
Oh, those pictures of corn and tomatoes make my mouth water! I read about someone making a tomato sandwich on white bread and with a bit of mayo, and I have had cravings for fresh tomatoes ever since!
The Hadley dishes are always perfection. I love your attitude toward food in general...now that's what I call healthy. I can be there in time for dinner...pull up another chair, please. Thank you for sharing your photos and thoughts! Cherry Kay
